9 Books to Add to Your Bookshelf

Hey! It’s great to see your face again, it’s been a while. For those of you who aren’t aware yet, I have been working hard to finish my first book which is set to be released next month (September 2016), so I’ve been a little busy!

Satisfy Your Soul: How to Begin Planting the Seeds of Your Dreams is indeed a dream come true for me. It’s something that I’ve been preparing for over a decade, really. In this first book of mine, I am playing the role of life-hack curator, mining my past to bring you the tools that have had the biggest impact on my life. And many of these tools started with me reading a book. Then I tested the ideas in my own life, and found some that actually WORK! Today I want to share a list of books that have played a formative and inspirational role in shaping who I am as a man, a father, a son, a business owner, a life coach, and now an author. Each of the following books have been seeds that have enabled me to live the life of my dreams. If you’ve already read these books, perhaps consider reviewing them again? And if you haven’t already read them, I highly recommend you add them to your bookshelf soon!

1) Life Loves You, by Louise Hay & Robert Holden

Life loves you is one of Louise Hay’s best-loved affirmations. It is the heart thought that represents her life and her work. Together, Louise and Robert Holden look at what life loves you really means—that life doesn’t just happen to you; it happens for you. In a series of intimate and candid conversations, they dig deep into the power of love, the benevolent nature of reality, the friendly universe, and the heart of who we really are.

2) The Four Agreements, by don Miguel Ruiz

In The Four Agreements, bestselling author don Miguel Ruiz reveals the source of self-limiting beliefs that rob us of joy and create needless suffering. Based on ancient Toltec wisdom, The Four Agreements offer a powerful code of conduct that can rapidly transform our lives to a new experience of freedom, true happiness, and love.

3) Mirror Work, by Louise Hay

The Mirror Principle, one of Louise’s core teachings, holds that our experience of life mirrors our relationship with ourselves; unless we see ourselves as loveable, the world can be a dark and lonely place. Mirror work—looking at oneself in a mirror and repeating positive affirmations—is Louise’s powerful method for learning to love oneself and experience the world as a safe and loving place. Like her successful video course, Loving Yourself, MIRROR WORK lays out a 21-day program of teachings and exercises to help readers deepen their relationship with themselves and live a joyous and fulfilling life. “Doing mirror work,” Louise tells readers, “is one of the most loving gifts you can give yourself.”

4) Daring Greatly, by Brené Brown

Every day we experience the uncertainty, risks, and emotional exposure that define what it means to be vulnerable or to dare greatly. Based on twelve years of pioneering research, Dr. Brené Brown dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and argues that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage.

5) Facing Love Addiction, by Pia Mellody

Another personal favorite, in this book, bestselling author of Facing Codependence Pia Mellody unravels the intricate dynamics of unhealthy love relationships and shows us how to let go of toxic love. Through twelve-step work, exercises, and journal-keeping, Facing Love Addiction compassionately and realistically outlines the recovery process for Love Addicts, and Mellody’s fresh perspective and clear methods work to comfort and motivate all those looking to establish and maintain healthy, happy relationships.

6) Loving Our Kids on Purpose, by Danny Silk

Here is a fresh look at the age-old role of parenting. Most parenting approaches train children to learn to accept being controlled by well meaning parents and adults. Unfortunately, God is not going to control us as we gain independence from our parents. We must learn to control ourselves. This book will teach parents to train their children to manage their freedoms and protect their important heart to heart relationships.

7) Holy Shift, by Robert Holden

In Holy Shift, Robert has selected 365 of his favorite passages from A Course in Miracles to
serve as daily meditations throughout the year. Students who are already familiar with the Course will enjoy this portable edition of miracles, and those new to the Course will appreciate the friendly and accessible introduction. Holy Shift will help everyone to practice the universal tenets of this profound teaching and to experience a year of miracles.

8) Presence, by Amy Cuddy

Amy Cuddy has galvanized tens of millions of viewers around the world with her TED talk about “power poses.” Now she presents the enthralling science underlying these and many other fascinating body-mind effects, and teaches us how to use simple techniques to liberate ourselves from fear in high-pressure moments, perform at our best, and connect with and empower others to do the same.

Brilliantly researched, impassioned, and accessible, Presence is filled with stories of individuals who learned how to flourish during the stressful moments that once terrified them. Every reader will learn how to approach their biggest challenges with confidence instead of dread, and to leave them with satisfaction instead of regret.

and of course…
